IXO is seeking researchers to author analyses that test linguistic phenomena and connect data to defensible generalizations. You will write reference analyses, explain exceptions, and evaluate how well generated analyses parse data and use the right concepts.

Your work at IXO

Author IXO problems that test analysis of language structure, meaning and use rather than surface fluency.

Responsibilities

• Test syntactic ambiguity, semantic entailment, phonological patterns or another specialist phenomenon.
• Write reference analyses that connect linguistic data to a defensible generalization.
• Explain exceptions and what evidence would undermine a proposed account.
• Evaluate whether generated analyses parse the data correctly and use the right concepts.
• Document the reasoning so another specialist can assess the conclusion.

Required experience and preparation

An advanced degree in linguistics or a closely related discipline and at least two years of relevant research, teaching or applied linguistics work are required. Bring depth in a subfield such as syntax, semantics, phonology, morphology, sociolinguistics or psycholinguistics, clear written English and availability for at least ten hours per week.

Preferred experience

A PhD, peer-reviewed work, computational/corpus methods or documentation of understudied languages.

Deliverables and engagement

Deliverables include specialist scenarios, reference analyses, evaluation criteria and evidence-based feedback. The work is remote and asynchronous, with the particular scope and schedule agreed before work.

Pay is $55 $105/hr in USD. IXO will agree the scope, deliverables and schedule before work begins.
