Overview

The AWS Professional Services team is seeking an Engagement Manager (Power Backbone Industry Consultant) to lead solutioning and delivery of complex cloud projects that solve customers’ business problems. This role combines industry expertise, consulting skills and technical understanding with strong project leadership to deliver business value based on AWS-based solutions. You will bridge business requirements with technical solutions, facilitate business discussions across stakeholders and ensure alignment with customer outcomes. You will apply AWS mechanisms such as Working Backwards and PR/FAQs to visualise digitisation and transformation of core customer processes, and work with architecture and technical teams to make informed trade-off decisions considering performance, scalability, security, speed of delivery and business impact.

This specific role supports customers operating in renewable/alternative power generation, electricity networks and mobility. You will be involved from ideation and inception through delivery and enablement of end-to-end solutions and value realisation, and you will mentor and support other consultants to broaden industry understanding and consulting skills. There are opportunities to extend experience into other energy domains such as upstream, downstream and mid-stream oil and gas.

You will have strong business acumen and program/project management experience, and will deepen technical skills to identify risks that could impact value delivery. You will achieve and maintain relevant AWS certifications and effectively communicate technical concepts to business audiences. As you progress, you’ll lead increasingly complex transformation projects, shape cross-organizational delivery strategies, and establish best practices in your domain. You will apply your management and leadership capabilities to develop and execute project plans, proactively identify and manage risks, resolve issues, escalate when appropriate, and drive projects to successful completion while exceeding customer expectations.

We work with customer teams and the AWS Partner Network (APN) to execute enterprise cloud computing initiatives and deliver guidance through our global specialty practices across a variety of solutions, technologies and industries.

• Supporting the business to think about problems in an Amazonian and innovative way to drive outcomes.
• Designing and delivering business transformation programs and projects using digital technology.
• Using consulting skills to bridge business requirements with technical solutions, facilitating engineering discussions and ensuring alignment with customer outcomes.
• Distilling customer needs into clear business outcomes and converting these into technical requirements.
• Building knowledge of AWS services, architectures and best practices to guide technical decisions and strategic planning.
• Leading a complex team of customers, AWS and partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelors/Master's degree in Business or Engineering (preferably Energy Management).
• 10+ years total professional experience, with at least 4 years in the energy industry delivering business change and transformation.
• Experience in one or more Power Backbone domains (renewable energy generation, electricity grid, mobility) with emphasis on end-to-end value chains.
• Proven consulting experience from ideation to business case, project/program design, delivery and value realisation.
• Ability to manage delivery of projects on time, budget and cost.
• Fluency in French and English; AWS cloud knowledge and certifications (Cloud Practitioner) is a plus.
• Experience with energy-specific use cases (renewable energy forecasting, power trading and market operations, grid management and optimization, demand response).
• Experience with technical solution implementations and understanding of architecture best practices for effective hand-off to technical consultants.
• Understanding of GEN AI, mathematical optimization and machine learning to support new ways of working.
• Experience teaching or mentoring energy systems to other consultants.
• Additional European languages are a plus (German, Spanish, Italian).
