We are looking for an experienced HR Specialist to join our Madrid office and take responsibility for providing day-to-day HR support to the Spanish business.

As the standalone HR professional based in Madrid, you will be the principal point of contact for employees and managers on local HR matters. You will provide practical advice throughout the employee lifecycle, support managers with people-related decisions and ensure local HR practices remain consistent with company policies and Spanish employment legislation.

Although this is a standalone position in Madrid, you will form part of the wider MPW-EMEA HR function and work with regional HR colleagues when appropriate.

This is a broad and hands-on role covering employee relations, HR administration, manager support, policies, HR systems, recruitment coordination, onboarding and employee development. It would suit a confident HR professional who is comfortable working independently, exercising sound judgement and building trusted relationships across the business.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the first point of contact for employees and managers in Spain on HR matters throughout the employee lifecycle.
• Provide clear, practical and consistent HR advice to employees and managers.
• Coach and support managers in effective people management practices.
• Manage employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance and appeal processes.
• Support workplace investigations and ensure cases are managed fairly, consistently and in accordance with company procedures and Spanish employment legislation.
• Support managers with performance management and progressive disciplinary processes.
• Maintain accurate employee records, personnel files and HR systems, ensuring information is handled securely and confidentially.
• Prepare and maintain HR reports, records and management information.
• Develop, review and maintain local employee handbooks, policies, procedures and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate employee onboarding, induction and probation processes.
• Support local recruitment activity when required, including advertising vacancies, screening applications, arranging interviews and preparing offer documentation.
• Coordinate training and development activities, including scheduling, attendance tracking and monitoring mandatory training requirements.
• Support annual people processes, including goal setting and performance reviews.
• Monitor developments in Spanish employment legislation and advise the General Manager, Spain and Head of HR of any potential implications for the business.
• Coordinate effective HR communications for employees and managers in Spain.
• Manage HR-related purchase orders and cost tracking.
• Process business expenses for senior leaders and directors when required.
• Identify opportunities to improve local HR processes, policies and ways of working.
• Work collaboratively with the wider MPW-EMEA HR team while retaining responsibility for the delivery of HR support within Spain.

Qualifications

You will be a credible, approachable and self-sufficient HR professional who can balance employee needs with business requirements. As the standalone HR representative in Madrid, you must be comfortable taking ownership, managing sensitive matters and providing confident advice.

You will ideally have:

• A degree in Labour Relations, Human Resources or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in a generalist HR role.
• Practical experience of managing employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance and appeal processes.
• A sound working knowledge of Spanish employment legislation and HR practices.
• The confidence and experience to operate as a standalone HR professional.
• Knowledge of wider European employment legislation would be advantageous.
• Strong coaching, stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to communicate credibly with employees and managers at all levels.
• Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
• Experience of maintaining HR systems, employee records and HR documentation.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
• Fluency in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
• The ability to work effectively and respectfully across different cultures.
• A high level of discretion, integrity and professionalism when handling confidential or sensitive information.
