Job description

About The Position

Do you want to work for an International Service Delivery Center in Spain as an Embedded Firmware Architect? You will develop and improve embedded firmware in C and C++, working mainly on bare-metal ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers. Together with electronics and other engineering colleagues, you will turn product requirements into working functionality, investigate issues on real hardware and verify that your changes behave as intended.

Understand the signal. Find the cause. Make the instrument work reliably. An unexpected measurement can come from the sensor, the electronics, the timing or the firmware. If you enjoy following that trail from code to hardware, this role could suit you. At ERNI, you will work with a customer developing instruments for vacuum measurement, leak detection and process control. Your firmware will connect the physical measurement to the behavior of the instrument.

What you will bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Software/Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Professional experience developing embedded firmware, with strong C skills and practical experience using C++
  • Experience working directly with microcontrollers and bare-metal firmware, including peripherals, interrupts and timing constraints
  • The ability to investigate hardware-software issues using a debugger, schematics and measurement equipment
  • A disciplined approach to testing, code review and version control
  • German & English skills that allow you to discuss technical problems and collaborate with international colleagues
  • Experience with ARM Cortex-M is particularly relevant. If you have worked with another microcontroller family, explain what you developed and how closely you worked with the hardware.
You will be responsible for
  • Developing firmware for sensor interfaces, instrument functions and communication with connected systems
  • Bringing up and debugging hardware with electronics engineers, using schematics, datasheets and lab measurements
  • Extending existing firmware as well as implementing new functionality
  • Building tests that make changes easier to verify and faults easier to reproduce
  • Investigating issues found during development, production or use in the field
  • The technical environment includes STM32-class microcontrollers, peripheral interfaces such as SPI, I²C and UART, and communication protocols such as CAN and Modbus. The interfaces you work with will depend on the instrument.
What if the project ends?

We work on a wide variety of projects, technologies, and sectors, allowing you to keep growing in different environments. If a project ends or you feel ready for a new challenge, we’ll find another one that aligns with your professional development.

Our working model

We ask you to be available for key meetings. Need to leave for a doctor’s appointment or to pick up your child from school? No problem. We trust you to deliver quality work within your 40-hour workweek.

Our model is hybrid: we usually go to the office 2 days a week, but we love seeing each other’s faces; the best stories always happen in the office!

You will also enjoy:
  • We cover your certifications and reward technical achievements up to €1,400.
  • Private health and travel insurance.
  • Full coverage for sick leave + 1 extra day off per month without medical leave.
  • Free emotional, legal, and family support.
  • Gym discounts + sports compensation.
  • Flexible remuneration: meals, transport, childcare, etc.
  • Referral bonuses: up to €6,000 per candidate and €5,000 per client.
  • 23 working days of vacation.
  • Free language courses: English, Spanish, Catalan and German.
And the salary

We will discuss it during the first call. If it is important to you, feel free to ask!
