Job summary

Hunter Philips Executive Search is seeking a SCADA Engineer to design and implement SCADA and EMS for large-scale BESS projects in Germany. You will coordinate with TSOs, contractors and suppliers, supporting testing and commissioning across a growing project portfolio.

The role requires a degree in electrical engineering, automation, or computer science, hands-on SCADA/EMS experience in the energy sector, knowledge of IEC 61850/104, Modbus and DNP3, and fluent German and English.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement SCADA and EMS systems for major BESS projects.
• Prepare and review technical specifications for control systems and metering infrastructure.
• Coordinate data points, communication protocols and grid protection concepts with transmission system operators.
• Develop metering concepts aligned with grid requirements and the commercial trading strategy.
• Manage technical interfaces with EPC contractors, Battery Management System (BMS) manufacturers and IT/OT teams.
• Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and commissioning.
• Help establish standardised SCADA architectures to support a growing project pipeline.

A growing German energy infrastructure business developing and delivering major battery storage projects across the country. The company is expanding its construction team to support the delivery of large-scale BESS assets.

The Opportunity

The company is seeking a SCADA Engineer to design and implement SCADA and Energy Management Systems (EMS) for large-scale BESS projects. You will coordinate technical requirements with transmission system operators, contractors and technology suppliers, supporting projects through testing and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and implement SCADA and EMS systems for major BESS projects.
• Prepare and review technical specifications for control systems and metering infrastructure.
• Coordinate data points, communication protocols and grid protection concepts with transmission system operators.
• Develop metering concepts aligned with grid requirements and the commercial trading strategy.

About You

• Degree in electrical engineering, automation, computer science or a related discipline.
• Experience developing or operating SCADA systems within the energy sector.
• Knowledge of relevant communication protocols, including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-104, Modbus and DNP3.
• Understanding of transmission system operator requirements, technical connection rules, grid codes
• Experience with metering systems and MID-compliant metering would be advantageous.
• Analytical, structured and proactive approach to technical work.
• Fluent German and English.
• Willingness to travel within Germany when needed.
