A prestigious research university in Hamburg is seeking a part-time Research Associate for the Cluster of Excellence project ‘CUI: Advanced Imaging of Matter’. The successful candidate will investigate photon interactions with two-dimensional materials like graphene and engage in independent research. Required qualifications include a Master's degree in Physics and a solid background in solid-state physics or quantum optics. This position offers reliable remuneration, flexible working hours, and excellent work-life balance.
Research Associate for the Project “Cluster of Excellence ‚CUI : Advanced Imaging of Matter‘- Two-dimensional materials in chiral cavities” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG
Institution Cluster of Excellence „CUI : Advanced Imaging of Matter“ (photon and nanosciences), Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Natural Sciences, Department of Physics
Start date as soon as possible, fixed for a period of three years (This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act [Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG]).

Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.
In this project the successful candidate is supposed to investigate the (strong) interaction between photons and two-dimensional materials such as graphene. A specific focus will be on light-matter interactions within chiral cavity and potential spontaneous time-reversal symmetry breaking of the material subsystem. The theoretical modelling will be done closely following experimental results. The obtained results are supposed to provide new avenues to tailor solid-state systems with the help of optical cavities.
The project-specific qualifications include a solid background in one of the following fields :
