Job description

The University of Marburg, founded in 1527, offers a variety of excellent programs of study for around 22,000 students and confronts the important topics of our time through excellent research across a broad spectrum of sciences.

The Department of Biology research group on “Developmental Genetics and Cell Biology of Animals”, Prof. Dr. Christian Helker, is currently accepting applications for a Research Assistant (Postdoc). The position is offered for a period of 3 years, if no former times of qualification must be considered. The starting date is as soon as possible. The position is fulltime with salary and benefits commensurate with a public service position in the state Hesse, Germany (TV-H E 13).

Entry date:

as soon as possible

Application deadline:

2026-11-22

Salary:

E 13 TV-H

Duration:

3 years

Volume of employment:

fulltime

  • design and cloning of optical biosensors to measure conformational dynamics of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs)
  • validation of optical biosensors in living cells
  • application of optical biosensors to characterize GPCRs responses to ligand and mechanical signals
  • design and performance of pharmacological, cell biological assays in microtiter plates (≥ 96-well)
  • analysis and visualisation of large pharmacological datasets
  • Structural modeling of GPCR-ligand interactions

The position will be filled by a temporary contract that is limited to the period which is necessary to gain further scientific expertise (such as the preparation for a subsequent qualification period). Within the entrusted tasks the opportunity for independent scientific work to obtain further personal qualification is given. The limitation complies with Section 2 (1) of the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG).

  • MSc degree or equivalent and a Ph.D. in the life sciences or evidence of near completion of doctoral studies
  • extensive experience in molecular biology techniques required for the cloning of new fusion proteins
  • extensive experience in performing pharmacological assays in living cells in microtiter plate format (≥ 96-well)
  • previous work on GPCR, G protein, GRK or arrestin related research questions
  • experience in the design and validation of new biosensors used in living cells is desireable
  • very good English skills
