Your role

As a Research Associate (Postdoc) in the Ubiquitous and Intelligent Systems (UBIX) Research Group at the University of Luxembourg's Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT), you will contribute to advanced research in the field of connected and autonomous driving. You will be involved in European and national research projects carried out in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners, addressing topics such as cooperative automated driving, connected mobility systems, and intelligent transportation technologies.

You will take a leading role in research activities, including the design and implementation of novel methods, experimental evaluation, and dissemination of results through high-quality scientific publications. Beyond technical contributions, you are expected to support the coordination and management of collaborative research projects, including task planning, partner interaction, and reporting activities. You will also assist in the co-supervision and mentoring of junior researchers, contributing to a supportive and dynamic research environment. In addition, you will actively participate in the preparation of competitive research proposals.

You should have experience in the following areas:

  • Applied Machine Learning for Autonomous Systems: Experience developing and deploying ML models for perception, prediction, or decision-making in autonomous driving or robotic systems
  • Reinforcement Learning and Agentic Control: Hands-on experience with reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, or planning-based agents for autonomous vehicles or robots operating in dynamic environments
  • Vision-Language-Action Models: Practical experience with multimodal models combining vision, language, and action for embodied agents, robotics, or autonomous driving applications
  • Perception and Sensor Fusion: Strong background in processing and fusing data from cameras, LiDAR, radar, or other sensors for robust autonomous system perception
  • ML Engineering and Experimentation: Proficiency with modern ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch), simulation environments, and reproducible experimentation pipelines for autonomous driving or robotics

Your profile

  • PhD in Computer Science, with specialization on applied machine learning, statistical methods, and/or autonomous systems
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Industry experience in information and communication technology will be considered as an advantage
  • Team working, a critical mind, and motivation are skills that are more than welcome
  • Knowledge of both the basics and the latest developments of machine learning, in particular large language models and other generative AI models

Language Skills: Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are required. French, German or Luxembourgish is a plus.
