The Opportunity

We are working with a growing international renewable energy developer seeking an experienced Head of Grid Connections to lead its grid connection activities across Germany.

The business is focused on developing utility-scale solar PV and battery energy storage projects, with an expanding portfolio across the German market.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced grid connections professional who combines strong technical expertise with strategic thinking and proven leadership capabilities.

A particularly important requirement is experience with 380 kV grid infrastructure and transmission-level connections.

The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping grid connection strategy, overseeing complex infrastructure projects and supporting the continued growth of the company's renewable energy portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead grid connection strategy for utility-scale solar PV and BESS projects across Germany.
• Oversee complex grid connection projects, including high-voltage and extra-high-voltage infrastructure up to 380 kV.
• Manage relationships with German Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and other relevant stakeholders.
• Oversee the grid connection process from initial feasibility studies and capacity assessments through to connection agreements and project delivery.
• Coordinate technical studies, grid connection applications, network assessments and associated documentation.
• Provide technical oversight of substations, transformers, transmission infrastructure and associated electrical systems.
• Work closely with project development, engineering, construction and commercial teams to resolve grid-related challenges.
• Manage external engineering consultants, technical advisers and contractors.
• Identify and mitigate technical, regulatory and commercial risks associated with grid connections.
• Lead and develop the grid connections function, providing technical guidance and supporting team development.
• Ensure projects comply with German grid regulations, connection requirements and relevant technical standards.

Your Background

We're looking for an experienced grid connections professional with:

• Significant experience in grid connections, electrical infrastructure or power systems engineering within Germany.
• Direct experience delivering or managing 380 kV grid connection or transmission infrastructure projects.
• Proven leadership experience, including managing technical teams, projects or external engineering partners.
• Strong knowledge of German grid connection processes, regulations and technical standards.
• Established experience working with German TSOs and DSOs.
• Technical knowledge of high-voltage substations, transformers, transmission networks and associated infrastructure.
• Experience managing complex engineering projects from feasibility through to delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and problem-solving skills.
• A degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• Strong German and English communication skills.

Experience within renewable energy development, particularly utility-scale solar PV and BESS, would be advantageous but is not essential.

Candidates from transmission system operators, distribution network operators, electrical engineering consultancies and EPC contractors are also encouraged to apply.
