The role includes deputising for the OH Nurse Consultant, providing leadership, mentorship and clinical supervision, and working regionally with other forces.

Devon and Cornwall and Dorset Policing Alliance are looking to recruit a Specialist Practitioner in Occupational Health (SCPHN) working for an in-house Occupational Health provision delivering the full remit of Occupational Health.

The successful applicant will work as a senior member of staff within the Occupational Health team providing a high quality, evidence based clinical advisory service to Managers, Staff and Officers of Devon & Cornwall Police. The staff member will advise on physical and psychological aspects of fitness for work, giving general health and wellbeing guidance and providing support to internal and external customers / contractors. S/he will become familiar with the wide range of roles within the police based on personal experience during induction and as a proactive team member. The Centre for Work and Health is a highly integrated and valued part of the organisation with a leading role in strategic and operational delivery of the wellbeing strategy.

A key function of the role will be to deputise for the Occupational Health Nurse Consultant and potentially the Lead Occupational Health Nurse Consultant, and act as a role model in demonstrating high standards of clinical care, providing leadership, mentorship and clinical supervision to the Occupational Health team on all matters pertaining to service delivery and people management health and wellbeing support.

We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic and driven individual with proven experience of building relationships. Working within an in house Occupational Health team you will receive all the support you need from our senior management team.

Working regionally with the other Forces in the South West of England gives the opportunity for inter-Force support. This enables us to seamlessly support Officers and Staff experiencing psychological or physical ill health but also to work closely with our counterparts in other Forces. The occupational health service makes a significant contribution to the national police wellbeing agenda. This promotes the best practices within Occupational Health but also enables us to support one another.

Salary: he commencing salary will be within Scale commencing entry point £47,172 with increments at 2 years and 5 years to the top of scale £53,980, plus a market supplement. Band 7 - Agenda for Change Scale.

Please note that the above salary is based on working 37 hours per week. If this role is part-time or you are appointed on a part-time basis your salary will be prorated to reflect this. Exceptions to starting salary may apply if you are an existing Devon & Cornwall or Dorset Police Staff employee substantively posted to a role at the same Scale.

Type of employment: Permanent, Market Supplement: £4,315 per annum (pro rata), this temporary market supplement has been approved and is applicable to this role to reflect determined market conditions. It is a separate pensionable supplement to the basic salary associated with this role and takes effect took effect from 17 June 2024. It is currently limited to a period 17 June 2026 and will be reviewed annually., A competitive salary with yearly increments.
