Overview

A Japanese manufacturer is currently recruiting a Finance Manager to join their Hamburg office. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all financial, administrative, and HR-related matters of the German entity, while acting as a key business partner to the Managing Director and liaison to the European HQ and parent company. The ideal candidate should have strong experience in financial management under German GAAP, solid knowledge of German tax regulations, and the ability to lead a small finance and administration team. This is a senior, hands-on position combining strategic oversight with operational responsibility.

Main Responsibilities
  • Oversee all financial, accounting, and administrative matters of the German entity
  • Manage month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and mid-term financial plans
  • Monitor cash flow, credit control, payments, and overall financial performance
  • Ensure compliance with German GAAP, tax regulations, and internal group policies
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and relevant authorities
  • Prepare VAT, EU Sales List, Intrastat, and other statutory reports
  • Lead and supervise the finance and administration team (2 staff members)
  • Oversee payroll processes in cooperation with external providers
  • Support HR-related matters including contracts, time recording, and employment administration
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director on financial, tax, legal, and administrative topics
Skills & Qualifications
  • Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of German GAAP and the German tax system (VAT, corporate tax)
  • Proven experience in financial management or accounting roles
  • Experience managing or supervising finance/admin staff
  • Fluent German and English
  • Strong analytical skills with a proactive, business-oriented mindset
