About the Opportunity
A leading Tier 1 Contractor is seeking an experienced EHS Manager to join its project team in Berlin, delivering a large-scale Hyperscale Data Centre.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for leading the Environmental, Health & Safety function across the project, ensuring all construction activities are delivered in compliance with company standards, client requirements and applicable legislation.
This is a senior site-based role suited to an experienced EHS professional with a strong background in Data Centres, M&E construction or other technically complex project environments.
Key Responsibilities of the EHS Manager:
- Lead the EHS function across the Data Centre project.
- Develop, implement and maintain the project EHS management plan.
- Ensure compliance with company procedures, client standards and statutory requirements.
- Provide visible EHS leadership to management, supervisors, subcontractors and site teams.
- Review and approve RAMS, risk assessments and high-risk work methodologies.
- Carry out regular site inspections, audits and safety observations.
- Monitor high-risk activities including energisation, lifting operations, work at height, confined spaces and temporary works.
- Support permit-to-work, isolation and LOTO processes.
- Lead incident investigations, corrective actions and lessons-learned reviews.
- Manage subcontractor EHS performance and ensure appropriate standards are maintained.
- Coordinate toolbox talks, inductions, safety campaigns and workforce engagement initiatives.
- Monitor environmental controls, waste management and sustainability requirements.
- Maintain EHS reporting, KPIs, audit records and compliance documentation.
- Liaise with the client, project leadership team and external stakeholders on EHS matters.
- Support commissioning and energisation phases to ensure safe transition from construction to live systems.
Necessary Requirements of the EHS Manager:
- Proven experience as an EHS Manager, HSE Manager or Senior EHS Advisor on large-scale construction projects.
- Strong background within Data Centres, M&E, Pharmaceutical, Semiconductor, Industrial or other technically complex environments.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety management and high-risk work activities.
- Experience managing subcontractors and influencing site leadership teams.
- Good understanding of RAMS, permit-to-work systems, LOTO and electrical safety controls.
- Strong incident investigation, auditing and reporting capability.
- Excellent communication, leadership and stakeholder-management skills.
- Relevant Health & Safety qualification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent.
- Previous Hyperscale Data Centre experience is highly desirable.
- Full working rights to operate in Germany / Europe are preferred.
