The Opportunity
A leading international construction contractor is seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Lead to oversee all HSE activities on a landmark data centre project in Frankfurt.
This is a key leadership position responsible for driving a world-class safety culture across a complex, fast-paced construction environment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Project Director, Construction Managers, subcontractors and client representatives to ensure the highest standards of health, safety and environmental performance are achieved throughout the project lifecycle.
This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of HSE delivery on one of Europe's most significant mission-critical developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the project.
- Develop, implement and continuously improve the project HSE management system.
- Promote a proactive and positive safety culture across all site teams and supply chain partners.
- Ensure compliance with local legislation, company standards and client requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections, audits and safety reviews.
- Monitor and report HSE performance against project KPIs.
- Drive incident prevention initiatives and behavioural safety programmes.
- Lead investigations into incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Review and approve RAMS, permits and high-risk work activities.
- Deliver HSE inductions, training programmes and toolbox talks.
- Support project leadership in achieving best-in-class safety performance.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, client HSE teams and external stakeholders as required.
- Manage and mentor site-based HSE Advisors and Coordinators.
Candidate Requirements
- Minimum 8+ years' experience in a Health & Safety leadership role within construction.
- Proven track record delivering HSE programmes on large-scale construction projects valued in excess of €100m.
- Experience within data centres, pharmaceuticals, industrial, energy, semiconductor or other complex engineering environments is essential.
- Strong knowledge of European construction health and safety legislation.
- Experience managing multiple subcontractors in a high-risk construction environment.
- Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to influence and drive behavioural change at all levels of an organisation.
- Strong reporting, auditing and incident investigation experience.
Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management or related discipline.
- NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6, GradIOSH/CMIOSH or equivalent.
- Relevant auditor qualifications would be advantageous.
