Job summary

Pentagon Technical Services Ltd in Frankfurt, Germany seeks an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager to join a major data centre project. You will manage commercial and cost control through the project lifecycle, collaborating with client, main contractor, subcontractors and the project team.

Responsibilities include procurement, cost reporting, valuations, variations, change control and final accounts; familiarity with FIDIC is highly desirable.

Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager – Data Centre Project

Location: Frankfurt, Germany

About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager to join a major data centre project in Frankfurt, Germany.

The successful candidate will be responsible for commercial and cost management across the project, working closely with the client, main contractor, subcontractors, consultants and wider project team.

The role will focus on ensuring effective commercial control throughout the project lifecycle, including procurement, cost reporting, valuations, variations, change management and final account. Strong FIDIC contract experience is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial and cost aspects of the project from pre-construction through to completion.
• Prepare and maintain accurate project cost reports, forecasts and budgets.
• Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and identify potential cost risks.
• Manage valuations, payment applications and subcontractor accounts.
• Review and assess variations, change orders and claims.
• Manage the commercial administration of contracts in accordance with FIDIC principles.
• Provide contractual and commercial advice to the project team.
• Review subcontractor and supplier quotations and negotiate commercial agreements.
• Assist with procurement and tendering activities.
• Maintain accurate records of commitments, variations, payments and forecasts.
• Assess extension of time and commercial claims where required.
• Monitor project progress and ensure commercial reporting reflects actual site progress.
• Prepare monthly commercial reports for senior management and the client.
• Identify commercial risks and opportunities and develop mitigation strategies.
• Support contract negotiations and dispute avoidance/resolution.
• Manage the final account process and project close-out.
• Work closely with project managers, construction managers, engineers and procurement teams to ensure strong commercial control.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager, Cost Manager or similar.
• Strong experience working on large-scale construction projects.
• Previous experience within data centres, mission-critical infrastructure, industrial, pharmaceutical or other complex projects is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of commercial and cost management processes.
• Demonstrable FIDIC contract experience.
• Experience managing subcontractor and supplier accounts.
• Strong understanding of variations, claims, valuations and change control.
• Excellent numerical, analytical and reporting skills.
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder-management abilities.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a wider project team.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts and commercial best practice.
• Experience working in Germany or across European construction projects is advantageous.
• German language skills are advantageous but not essential.
