SUMMARY

As the Chemist, you will perform chemical analysis of drinking water, bottled, and environmental samples for trace level hazardous inorganic and organic contaminants in Germany.

QUALIFICATION
  • Be a graduate of a post-secondary vocational/trade school or bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Chemistry or a related science field.
  • Language Requirement. Have the ability to read, speak and write English.
  • A Minimum of five years of experience in a laboratory setting.
  • Must be able to perform water, soil, and filter analyses using standard chemical methodologies.
  • Have experience with nucleic acid extraction and PCR analysis.
  • Knowledge of public health policies and regulations and the fundamental principles of chemistry, and practices applicable to the performance of chemical analyses including the operation of the various analyzer systems.

THE DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Review background information, chemical properties, and physical states of a sample in the context of pertinent guidelines, regulations, and final governing standards.
  • Select methods and analyze samples to obtain requested data. Analytical work will be performed on instrumentations such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), chromatography coupled with mass spectrometric detectors (LC-MS, LC-MS-MS, GC-MS, GC-MS-MS), flame ionization detectors (FID), and electron capture detectors (ECD), ion chromatography (IC), gas flow proportional counters, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometers (ICP-MS) and inductively coupled optical emission spectrometers (ICP-OES).
  • Recommend method modifications and/or implement and optimize new methods in cooperation with DA civilian chemists and physical science technicians and will assist in the training of new analysts assigned to similar work.
  • Review analytical data generated by multiple team members for correctness, completeness, and scientific integrity, and report data using the electronic laboratory information management system (eLIMS).

This position is not eligible for support under NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) supplemental agreement articles 72 or 73.
