Job summary

Brightsmith in Berlin is seeking a Senior Billing Operations Manager / Senior Accounts Receivable to own the end-to-end billing process across multiple services. You will drive accurate invoicing, manage high-volume billing, and collaborate with Finance, Operations, Sales, Legal and Project Management to improve workflows and implement automation.

This role requires several years in billing operations, strong ERP knowledge, and fluency in German and English.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end billing process from invoice preparation to recording.

We are currently supporting an innovative and growing energy solutions business in Germany with the appointment of a Senior Billing Operations Manager / Senior Accounts Receivable professional.

Our client operates across a range of decentralised energy solutions, including solar PV, electricity, heating and cooling, charging infrastructure and innovative energy service models.

As the business continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced professional to take ownership of their end-to-end billing operations, ensuring accurate and efficient invoicing while developing scalable processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of the end-to-end billing process, including invoice preparation, verification, issuing and recording.
• Manage recurring, contract-based and consumption-based billing across multiple services and customer groups.
• Ensure accurate application of contractual pricing, tariffs, taxes, indexation and billing adjustments.
• Oversee the accuracy and completeness of customer, contract, pricing and consumption data.
• Coordinate external billing providers and ensure timely, accurate delivery.
• Work closely with Finance, Operations, Sales, Legal and Project Management to ensure effective billing processes and resolve discrepancies.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing billing workflows, systems and operational efficiency.
• Drive process optimisation, automation and integration across billing, CRM and ERP platforms.
• Develop reporting and performance indicators to monitor invoicing accuracy, billing backlogs and outstanding receivables.
• Support billing reconciliations, customer queries, dispute resolution and financial closing processes.
• Contribute to the development of the billing function by establishing clear processes, responsibilities and operational standards.
• Ensure compliance with relevant German invoicing, tax and regulatory requirements.

About You

• Several years of experience in billing operations, invoicing, customer billing, contract billing or a similar operational function.
• Experience managing complex, recurring or high-volume billing processes.
• Strong knowledge of billing systems, ERP platforms and customer or contract data management.
• A track record of improving operational processes, workflows or systems.
• Excellent analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to take ownership of a function and work independently.
• Experience collaborating across multiple departments and managing internal and external stakeholders.
• Fluent German and strong professional English.
