Zusammenfassung

CERN's Shipping Unit seeks a Shipping Officer to organise and coordinate import/export transport worldwide by road, air, sea and rail. You will manage shipments including chemicals, radioactive materials and other regulated goods, ensuring safe, compliant operations.

You will work with carriers and internal stakeholders, review requests, prepare transport quotations, verify invoices, and support continuous improvement of shipping processes and tools. Fluency in English and French is required.

Qualifikationen

  • Experience organizing international transport operations and coordinating with partners across the transport industry.
  • Exposure to Incoterms and their application in international trade and transport.
  • Ability to write clear procedures and work instructions.
  • Education in Commercial Business Administration focused on international transport/logistics or equivalent.
  • CERN Member State eligibility constraints apply (nationality restrictions).
  • Max 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field.
  • Bachelor's, Master's or PhD not held.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer-service mindset.

Aufgaben

  • Review, correct, and validate transport requests; organise import/export shipments by road, air, sea, and rail.
  • Ensure compliance with transport, customs, and dangerous goods regulations; prepare and verify transport and customs documentation.
  • Coordinate shipments with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders; track shipments and ensure timely delivery.
  • Advise CERN users on transport and logistics solutions; prepare transport quotations and recommend suitable options.
  • Verify transport invoices; resolve transport issues, claims, and delivery disputes.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to transport-related inquiries.
  • Support continuous improvement of shipping processes and logistics tools.

As a Shipping Officer in CERN’s Shipping Unit, you will organise and coordinate the import and export transportation of goods worldwide by road, air, sea, and rail. You will manage a wide range of shipments, including chemicals, radioactive materials, dual-use items, and other regulated goods, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant transport operations.

Responsibilities
  • Review, correct, and validate transport requests, and organise import and export shipments by road, air, sea, and rail.
  • Ensure compliance with transport, customs, and dangerous goods regulations, and prepare and verify transport and customs documentation.
  • Coordinate shipments with carriers, freight forwarders, and internal stakeholders, track shipments, and ensure timely delivery.
  • Advise CERN users on transport and logistics solutions, prepare transport quotations, and recommend the most suitable shipping options.
  • Verify and approve transport invoices, and resolve transport issues, claims, and delivery disputes.
  • Provide excellent customer service and respond to users' transport-related enquiries.
  • Support continuous improvement of shipping processes and logistics tools.
Requirements
  • Some experience in organising international transport operations, including customer service and coordination with various partners across the transport industry.
  • Some initial exposure to Incoterms® and their application in international trade and transport.
  • Some experience in writing clear and structured procedures and work instructions.
  • Your studies focused on Commercial Business Administration, specialising in international transport, logistics, or freight forwarding, or an equivalent field.
  • You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (excluding Pakistani, Lithuanian, Latvian, Cypriot and Croatian nationals due to ceiling limits).
  • By the application deadline, you have a maximum of 2 years of professional experience since graduation in a technical or administrative field and your highest educational qualification is a general secondary education diploma or a shorter non-university degree.
  • You can’t hold a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD.
  • You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer and service-oriented mindset.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to effectively manage priorities and adapt to a dynamic working environment.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • Spoken and written both English and French.
