Reporting to the Coordinator of Programs, the P-5 Student-Centered French Immersion Coach is a regional position combining the roles traditionally held by Elementary French Immersion Mentors and Early Mathematics Intervention teachers. These Coaches are Learning Support Teachers supporting Tier 1 practices in schools. Coaching will focus on intentional, student-centered planning, instruction, and assessment in French second language instruction, as well as short-term Tier 2 math support for identified students primarily at grades 2 and 3.
Student-Centered French Immersion Coaches are vital members of the regional and school teams, aiming to positively influence teacher practices and student achievement. They will model effective strategies in literacy and mathematics classrooms, co-plan, co-teach, and facilitate post-lesson reflections analyzing student work, tracking achievement, and setting student-centered goals. They provide non-evaluative feedback to support instructional improvement.
Intervention support involves co-teaching in mathematics classrooms and, when necessary, small group interventions outside the classroom. The focus is on building number and operations skills and fostering confidence in students near meeting expectations.
Beyond school-level support, Coaches will collaborate with regional teams and provide leadership aligned with regional priorities.
