Do you want to work in an environment where you will be responsible for supervising staff and directing and overseeing the safe, efficient and compliant day-to-day operations and reporting functions of the Radiation Protection Equipment Services Calibration Lab? If you answered yes, then this may be the job for you! Our Chalk River location is looking for a Calibration Lab Supervisor to ensure that work performed by the lab meets CNL’s Quality and Calibration Program requirements, as well as radiation protection regulatory and site license requirements. Apply now!

What will you be doing!
  • Assisting in the research and development of, and the implementation and maintenance of plans such as, but not limited to, training plans, improvement plans, equipment and asset maintenance.
  • Assessing, scheduling and monitoring the workload of the lab to ensure routine calibration tasks are performed on time at the required frequency. This includes coordinating and scheduling non-routine (i.e. infrequent/"walk-in") tasks and monitoring to ensure these are completed in a timely manner.
  • Supporting the continuous development, review and improvement of the lab’s operating documentation (e.g. calibration procedures).
  • Supporting the continuous development and improvement of the training needs and plan for the lab staff. This includes the maintenance of training records and may include assessment of competency (i.e. sign‑offs).
  • Acting as a designate for the Manager, RP Equipment Services when away from the site for short periods of time.
  • Assisting with setting objectives, completing performance reviews and following the disciplinary process for all direct reports within the line.
  • Collaborating with CNL union representatives to influence positive employee relations.
  • Reviewing and, as required approving, calibration reports, test reports, and other records produced by the lab.
  • Assisting in the identification, management and resolution of nonconformities. This includes participating in the selection and implementation of corrective actions, and monitoring of those corrective actions.
  • Supporting the continuous assessment and validation of the lab’s methods and processes, and supporting the implementation of changes to the methods and processes as required.
  • Meeting with customers to determine needs and negotiate a solution that meets those needs in alignment with the service the lab can provide. Assisting with the responses and corrective measure regarding customer complaints.
  • Consulting with the Radiation Protection Program staff on aspects of the lab’s services as it relates adherence to regulatory and company requirements.
  • Participating in internal and external management, QA and regulatory audits as required.
  • Maintaining records of lab measuring and testing equipment, with consideration to equipment obsolescence and aging. As required, assessing and supporting planning for equipment replacement.
  • Ensuring the control of data and the maintenance of intangible equipment (e.g. computer software, calculation worksheets).
  • Interacting face to face, over the phone and teams with calibration lab staff, customers, external companies and staff from other groups.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for
  • Education
    • Graduation from an applicable college or university program in the fields of Engineering & Technology, Quality Assurance/Control, Physical Sciences or role related discipline.

    • Knowledge of good laboratory and quality assurance practices.
    • Knowledge and understanding of radioactivity and nuclear instrumentation would be an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Possess a meticulous attention for detail and procedural adherence.
