AltaGas - Senior Project Engineer
The Project Engineer is part of the AltaGas REEF project team and collaborates with engineering service providers, fabricators, equipment vendors, and other stakeholders to deliver engineered designs and equipment, driving technical solutions within their assigned scope. They visit fabrication shops and construction sites as needed to ensure proper implementation of designs. Project Engineers may also provide relief coverage for Field Engineers on site.
You will:
- Ensure relevant internal stakeholders receive RFPs for awareness.
- Engage with the Project Quality Lead for RFP development, technical reviews, and inform when scopes are awarded to initiate inspection requirements, including pre-award Shop Quality Audits.
- Oversee design activities to meet all requirements related to cost, schedule, and quality.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, documents, procedures, templates, and contract schedules used in project execution.
- Contribute to the development of Stage Gate Packages for owner and partner approval.
- Provide oversight and input into the development of the DBM, PEP, and CEP.
- Review regulatory applications and ensure compliance with permit commitments.
- Participate in cost estimation, project scheduling, and cost-saving initiatives, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Maintain project logs such as RFI, NCR, and Deficiency logs.
- Lead technical development for engineering services, equipment, and materials for bid packages.
- Conduct technical evaluations for bid packages.
- Coordinate EWP processes to meet scope and schedule requirements.
- Manage design changes to control costs, ensuring safety, compliance, maintainability, and operability, while minimizing owner liability.
- Engage internal and external stakeholders throughout the project.
- Support project progress monitoring, risk mitigation, lessons learned, and project close-out activities.
- Assist in resolving technical issues during commissioning and start-up.
- Identify opportunities for engineering practice improvements based on industry trends and research.
You have:
- A recognized bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
- P. Eng. or P.L (Eng) designation registered or eligible with Alberta Professional Engineers and Geoscientists.
- 10-15 years of progressive project engineering or management experience.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and written skills.
- Strong understanding of regulations, codes, and standards governing Oil and Gas facilities in Alberta, BC, and the US (e.g., ABSA, AER, BCOGC, TSBC, ASME, CSA, OH&S, OSHA).
- Working knowledge and experience with gas processing facilities, pipelines, LACTs, and rail terminals.
- Solid technical background across various engineering disciplines.
- Proven experience with greenfield and brownfield projects.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and scheduling software like P6 or Microsoft Projects.
- Knowledge of Oracle JD Edwards or similar ERP systems is an asset.
- Ability to travel to field locations and a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
