Job Title: Paid Mentorship: Outreach Coordinator

Duration: To be discussed, with flexibility in hours per week.

Rate of Pay: $16/hour

Total Wages: $4480 (inclusive of Mandatory Employment Related Costs such as taxes, EI, CPP)

The chosen candidate will work alongside the Eastern Edge (EE) Interim Director and two Programming Coordinators to gain hands-on experience with the planning and implementation of HOLD FAST: Contemporary Arts Festival (September 30th – October 3rd), along with gaining insight into the operations and programming of an artist-run centre. An emphasis of this position will be focused on community outreach in which the Outreach Coordinator, with support from the EE team, will develop new and enhance existing outreach initiatives. They will work towards identifying and minimizing barriers to EE’s platforms and prioritize outreach to Queer and BIPOC communities, caretakers of young children, students, and other organizations which have similar values and goals as EE. This is an opportunity for collaboration and mentorship, with the intent of teaching valuable skills to develop a sense of confidence and ownership of EE as an art-run, community-oriented space.

The Outreach Coordinator should be flexible with working hours (occasional evening and weekends) and be able to commit to longer days during events.

Qualifications:

• Willingness to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks.
• Demonstrated working knowledge, appreciation of, and participation in the arts and communications.
• Passion, vision, and a desire to make a difference in their community.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Strong computer skills, particularly in information management (Google Drive, Sheets/Excel, Docs, etc).
• Willingness to learn new skills.
• Must be able to take responsibility for tasks and see those tasks through to completion.
• Must be able to meet deadlines and delegate tasks when required.
• Must be self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Design skills are an asset.

Specific Tasks & Responsibilities:

The Outreach Coordinator will work alongside the EE team to facilitate gallery activities, moderate online programming and events, organize and install exhibitions, maintain the gallery space and the presence and visibility of Eastern Edge Gallery, its exhibitions, events, and educational programs within the local, national, and international community. They will help coordinate exhibitions and events, social media, community and press communications, regularly update the gallery’s archives and website. They will also assist with and lead outreach activities to develop new audiences in the broader provincial community and aid in organizing logistics for visiting artists.

As previously mentioned, a specific role of the Outreach Coordinator will be to work with the gallery staff to strategize and perform outreach initiatives that garner interest in EE’s space and opportunities with a focus on marginalized communities.

Programming maintenance

• Organize and prepare for events and programming.
• Coordinate with festival artists regarding online logistics of HOLDFAST.
• Coordinate with artists regarding residency requirements.
• Develop programming that acknowledges our outreach initiatives.

Daily Administrative

• Office and gallery maintenance.
• Maintain and develop gallery membership benefits.
• Recruit and train gallery volunteers.

Communications/Promotions Assistance

• Assist in generating social media content by helping promote EE events via social media.
• Connect with relevant community partners and utilize basic design skills.
• Discover contacts and sources to reach marginalized communities.
• Develop relationships and dialogue with these contacts.
• Increase community members from such communities.
