We are now recruiting Welders/Ironworkers for upcoming turnaround and shutdown projects to support the team based in Wabush (Labrador).

We are actively looking to fill short-duration (7 days) and long-duration (multiple 10+ days) openings for our busy shutdown season.

Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Set up components for welding/fabrication as per standard specifications;
  • Perform field layout measurements for fabrication and provide field sketches to the planning department.
  • Weld different metals and alloys in various positions;
  • Advanced measuring skills;
  • Ability to lift and manipulate large metal objects;
  • Weld/fabricate a variety of equipment and industrial components;
  • Determine appropriate welding equipment or methods based on individual job requirements;
  • Read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions;
  • Operate grinders, gouging and cutting equipment;
  • Create jigs and fixtures to create a quality and repeatable product;
  • Maintenance and use of equipment that does not compromise safety;
  • Quality - Testing and inspection of welds to discover flaws;
  • Participate and comply with all required Health & Safety Programs and training;
  • Work safely, lead by example and contribute to the safety program;
  • Communicate appropriately, confidently, and professionally to colleagues and management;
  • Support painting of fabricated components;
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3-5 or more years of experience within an industrial setting is required
  • Welding or Fabrication certification is required; indentured apprentices will be considered.
  • Familiarity with standard welding tools and procedures, including MIG welding, stick welding, flux core welding, plasma cutting, metal fabricating, grinding, and finishing metals;
  • Millwright and equipment guarding experience would be a considerable asset;
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (Mainly SMAW, & FCAW);
  • Experience doing field layout and developing plans for fabrication;
  • Experience doing sketches for field fabrication work;
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings;
  • Mechanical aptitude, experience or certification in other trades an asset;
  • Self-motivated, organized and able to work independently;
  • Able to work in a team environment and utilize all available resources;
  • Excellent communication skills – both oral and written;
  • Previous supervisory experience will be considered an asset;
