Job summary

York Region is seeking a Design Technologist, Water and Wastewater (Technologist II) to support review of designs, assist with contract drawings, tender documents and estimates, and help manage Water and Wastewater construction projects.

Qualifications

• Three-year Community College Diploma in Civil/Mechanical/Chemical/Electrical Engineering Technology or Environmental Technology
• Minimum three (3) years’ experience in municipal and water and wastewater operations, design and/or drafting
• Knowledge of water and wastewater operations, maintenance, design, surveying and survey applications
• Familiarity with legislation, guidelines and standards
• Understanding of planning, design and construction and Ministry water and wastewater policies and procedures
• Competencies including customer focus, communication, collaboration and ownership
• Proficient in MS Office and AUTOCAD or similar software

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of drawings, tenders, estimates and specifications for water and wastewater construction projects
• Review proposals and provide comments, and prepare cost sharing estimates
• Prepare design alternatives and recommend the best option based on technical merit
• Design and analyze drainage aspects for water and wastewater projects
• Ensure project reporting and digital platforms are current
• Conduct site inspections to verify base plans and design details
• Calculate quantities, costs and payment recommendations for regional water and wastewater projects
• Liaise with staff, agencies, contractors and the public on construction projects
• Represent York Region for Water and Wastewater capital projects at public information centres
