Job description

Fort Albany First Nation is a Cree Nation community along the west coast of James Bay. With a population of approximately 1,200 people within the community itself, Fort Albany First Nation serves around 5,000 band members shared with Kashechewan First Nation.

Mundo Peetabeck Education Authorities' mission and vision are to promote lifelong learning for all by fostering traditional values, preserving the Cree language, and ensuring student success within a safe and positive environment. Mundo Peetabeck aims to lead and motivate community members to work collaboratively towards the community's future aspirations. The organization emphasizes the importance of traditional values, community involvement, and personal and academic support through the Seven Grandfather Teachings. The goal is to foster teamwork and share traditional values across the community.

License / Certification:

  • Ontario College of Teachers certification (preferred)
  • Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and ability to integrate First Nations cultural activities into the curriculum
  • Excellent computer literacy skills

Responsibilities:

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for staff and students
  • Integrate First Nation cultural knowledge and activities into the curriculum and school community
  • Participate in ongoing professional development
  • Support the Principal in school leadership and daily operations
  • Coordinate meetings with parents and professionals as needed
  • Hold an Ontario Teaching Certificate and demonstrate strong leadership skills
  • Possess knowledge of First Nations culture and experience with First Nations students; interpersonal and classroom management skills are essential
  • Maintain good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers and demonstrate a professional work ethic
  • Support the implementation of instructional components such as early intervention, behavioral analysis, and systematic data monitoring
  • Develop individualized educational plans for students and families
  • Collaborate with school teams to assess needs, determine interventions, and monitor progress
  • Provide crisis response and behavioral management for students facing emotional challenges
  • Keep accurate records and communicate with administration and staff about student or family contacts
  • Follow Board policies and stay updated on policy changes
  • Participate in community and cultural events
  • Complete a current Criminal Reference Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening if hired
