Job summary

Northern College is seeking a Trades Technician in Timmins to coordinate day-to-day operations of trades labs and provide technical support to instructors and students. The role requires strong troubleshooting abilities and a commitment to safety in a dynamic shop environment.

Reporting to the Dean of Mining, Trades, Technology, and Apprenticeship, you will help prepare materials, equipment, and demonstrations, while maintaining equipment and spaces in safe, serviceable condition.

Qualifications

• College Diploma, or Apprenticeship, a Red Seal in Industrial Mechanics (Millwright), Heavy Equipment, Automotive Service, Welding, or Mechanical Technology, or related/relevant field.
• Minimum five (5) years of practical experience in a related trade.
• Forklift certification is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day operations of trades laboratories and shop facilities supporting (motive power, millwright, welding, and apprenticeship programs).
• Serve as the primary point of contact for shop- and laboratory-related technical inquiries.
• Provide specialized technical support related to operation, maintenance, modification, installation, and troubleshooting of heavy equipment, automotive systems, millwright training equipment, welding equipment, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, mechanical trainers, and related instructional resources.
• Assist faculty with the preparation, setup, and execution of laboratory and shop-based learning activities.
• Support program delivery by preparing materials, equipment, tools, training aids, and demonstration systems for instructional use.
• Coordinate and complete projects initiated by faculty to support curriculum delivery, applied learning activities, and apprenticeship training;
• Ensure equipment and workspaces are maintained in a safe and serviceable condition.
