Job summary

Northern College in Timmins, Ontario is seeking an Electrical Technician to provide senior technical support for electrical laboratories and training facilities, reporting to the Dean of Mining, Trades, Technology and Apprenticeship.

You will maintain equipment, assist with design and installation, ensure safety compliance, and keep maintenance records; requires a 3-year diploma or degree and 7+ years' experience; 309A license is an asset.

Qualifications

• Three-year Community College diploma or a three-year undergraduate University degree in Electrical or related field.
• Minimum seven years of practical experience in a related trade.
• 309A license is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialized technical support for electrical laboratories, training equipment, tools, devices, trainers, and facilities.
• Ensure training environments are fully operational and prepared for instructional delivery.
• Recommend, source, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot equipment used in skilled trades programs.
• Assist with the design, modification, installation, and maintenance of electrical training systems and laboratory equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on shop, laboratory, and training equipment to minimize downtime.
• Monitor equipment condition and maintain accurate maintenance records.
• Coordinate equipment inspections, testing, calibration, and certification requirements.
• Ensure laboratories and shops operate in compliance with health and safety legislation and policies.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety concerns.

What you will need to be considered:

• Three (3) year Community College diploma, or a three (3) year undergraduate University degree in Electrical, or a related/relevant field;
• Minimum seven (7) years of practical experience in a related trade; and
• 309A license is considered an asset.

The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as a team, have clear verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills and time-management skill.
