A health care provider in Alberta is seeking a Therapy Assistant to join their Adult Inpatient Program. This role involves working with an interdisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care in mental health and rehabilitation settings. Responsibilities include assisting various therapists and contributing to quality improvement initiatives. Candidates should hold a diploma in rehabilitation therapy or possess equivalent training. This Therapy Assistant position reports to a Unit Manager within the Adult Inpatient Program at the Centennial Centre for Mental health and Brain Injury. The program offers specialized inpatient assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and support to those within the facility. As part of Addiction and Mental Health Services, the Adult Inpatient Program is organized into three service areas: Acute, Complex Care and Concurrent Disorders Enhanced Services. In your role as a Therapy Assistant, you will report directly to the Unit Manager and work closely and collaboratively with the Occupational Therapists, you may also work with Recreation Therapists. You will work as a member of an interdisciplinary team using a client-centered approach, providing functional services, and educating patients. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
