An established industry player is seeking an Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Systems Test Technician to join their innovative team. Position Summary:
The Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Systems Test Technician will be responsible for assisting with and conducting testing activities for electric vehicle and energy storage systems at the cell, module and/ or pack level. The technician will adhere to all TÜV SÜD policies and procedures as outlined in various Corporate Policies and the Employee Handbook. The technician will be provided ongoing training and support to conduct various degrees of test disciplines and data acquisition/control system wiring, which will include Environmental Testing, Abuse & Performance testing on Lithium-Ion batteries. It is also expected that the technician will provide similar training once competence has been demonstrated
Responsibilities:
- Assist with and conduct passive propagation, external short circuit, overcharge, over discharge, over temperature, various cycling requirements, drop testing, roll over, thermal shock, immersion, crush, post-test tear down, and other relevant tests on electric vehicle and energy storage systems.
- Follow customer project timelines to ensure on-time delivery of test results and reports by employing established methods of execution.
- Troubleshooting of testing equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.
- Document all test results using test monitoring sheets, technical reports, processed data, photographs, and videos.
- Utilize a variety of instrumentation and equipment, including battery cyclers, temperature measurements (thermocouple, thermistor, RTD, infrared cameras), voltage and resistance measurements (cell voltage sense, module/pack with multimeter, various custom data acquisition setups), and instrumentation measurements (pressure transducers, flow meters, CAN bus communications, surveillance cameras).
- Follow testing standards, such as UN 38.3, UN ECE R100.02/03, UL1973, UL2580, IEC 62619, IEC 62620, IEC 60529, ISO 12405, SAEJ 2464, and additional customer test procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality of customers, products tested, and appropriate internal information.
- Raise requisitions for materials to maintain stock of general shop supplies
- Ensure compliance with established work standards and safe practices, including the use of all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Continuously look for ways to establish efficiencies in productivity and suggest improvements to resolve work problems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of lithium-ion battery technology and safety requirements.
- Experience in test method development and execution, instrumentation and data acquisition, and safety systems.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently.
Education:
- Technical 2 or 3 year diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to safely handle and operate laboratory equipment.
- Capability to occasionally lift and handle equipment weighing up to 25 lbs
