Job summary

Surrey Police Service (SPS) invites applications for three regular full-time Telecommunications Operator 1 positions in the OCC. You will respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, screen requests, and relay information to field units while receiving training in radio dispatch.

This on-site role requires Grade 12, typing 45 wpm, and the ability to work rotating shifts. A polygraph and RCMP reliability clearance are mandatory, with CUPE 402 union protection and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by some related experience.
• Accurate typing speed of 45 wpm.
• The ability to work rotating shifts, including day, evening, graveyards, holidays and weekends.
• This position requires SPSSecurity Clearance and RCMP Reliability Status; all applicants must obtain and maintain clearance including polygraph.

POSITION OVERVIEW

SurreyPolice Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for three regular full-timeTelecommunications Operator 1 to join our Operations Communications Centre(OCC) Section, within the Community Policing Bureau. Reporting to the OCCManager, the incumbent is responsible for the efficient response to emergencyand non-emergency calls, call screening, timely communication, effectiveprioritization of calls and related detailed administrative work. In addition,the incumbent receives training in radio dispatch in order to be able to assistin dispatching field units, when necessary.

Schedule / Hours of Work

Thisis an on-site position and the incumbent will work a rotating scheduleof four (4) 12-hour shifts, followed by four days off. Incumbents must be ableto work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, graveyards, holidays andweekends. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operationalneeds and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

• Takesreports and enters detailed information accurately within time constraints.
• Providescritical information with speed and accuracy to the public and other agencies.
• Maintainsphone contact with callers under certain emergency situations, dispensesinstructions to callers and ensures that all pertinent information istransmitted to the Telecommunications Operator 2.
• Liaisesclosely with the Telecom Operator 2 on priority 1 calls, completes extensivereport taking and required investigation, and returns to the caller, as needed.
• Identifiesother agencies that may be required for the event, forwards the information tothe Telecom Operator 2 and/or contacts the agencies directly.
• Completesforms, reports and records pertaining to receipt of incoming calls.
• AccessesCPIC, CAD (computer aided dispatch), and other information sources to makeinquiries related to a report or event.
• Receivestraining in the dispatch function and assists in the dispatch function as partof that training.
• Maybe required to attend court to give evidence on calls taken.
• Maintainscomprehensive file records per various file management requirements.
• Maintainsgeneral upkeep and cleaning of equipment and workstation.

• This is a unionized position, representedby CUPE 402.
• The compensation range is $39.99/hour- $47.10/hour (pay grade 19E) based on 2026 rates.
• Shift Differential: An additional$5.00 per hour for shifts worked Sunday through Thursday between 19:00 and 07:00,and an additional $8.00 per hour for shifts worked Friday and Saturday between 19:00and 07:00.
