Job summary

Surrey Police Service (SPS) is recruiting for experienced clerks to join the Auxiliary Clerical Pool. Members may be placed into temporary assignments across the organization to support various bureaus, reporting to a unit/section manager.

Duties include data collection, reporting, records maintenance, and answering inquiries from the public and staff. Assignments vary in length and may cover short‑term leaves or special projects.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by several courses in office administration or related courses with a minimum of two years of office experience.
  • Accurate typing speed of 40 wpm is required.
  • Applicants shortlisted will be invited to a typing, word, and excel skill testing session.

Surrey PoliceService (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

SPS isoffering an exciting opportunity for experienced clerks to join the AuxiliaryClerical Pool. Members of the pool may be placed into temporary administrativeassignments across the organization as operational needs arise, providingsupport to various sections including, but not limited to, the Corporate ServicesBureau, Investigative Services Bureau, and the Office of the ChiefConstable.Reporting to a unit/section manager,auxiliary clerksperform a range of clerical work which may require independent judgement andinitiative within defined guidelines. Duties will vary based on the demands ofthe section. Typical duties will include:

  • Collecting and inputting data
  • Preparing reports and data summaries
  • Filing and maintenance of records
  • Preparing and posting schedules, notices, and charts
  • Preparing, maintaining, and reconciling data
  • Providing information to others
  • Answering inquiries and complaints from the public andstaff
  • Performing other related duties as required

Assignments will vary in length, providingcoverage for short-term leaves, special projects and assisting with additionalworkflow.Upon completion of an assignment, an incumbent will return tothe Auxiliary clerical pool and will be eligible for assignment in othersections.

Schedule / Hours of Work

Thisis an on-site position and the anticipated schedule forauxiliary assignments is Monday to Friday between standard operating hours. Thehours of work will vary based on operational need but cannot exceed 7 hours/dayor 35 hours/ week. Please note, hours are not guaranteed and are subject tochange based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • The successful incumbent will have completionof Grade 12, s upplementedby several courses in office administration or other related courses witha minimum of two years of experience in an office environment.
  • An accuratetyping speed of 40 wpm is required
  • Applicants who areshort-listed will be invited to attend a skill testing session for typing,word, and excel.Only those considered for employment will becontacted for this session.

Allapplicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearancethroughouttheir employment with SPS, which includesa mandatory polygraph examination.
