Job summary

Surrey Police Service (SPS) invites applications for three regular full-time Telecommunications Operator 1 positions in the OCC. You will respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, screen requests, and relay information to field units while receiving training in radio dispatch.

This on-site role requires Grade 12, typing 45 wpm, and the ability to work rotating shifts. A polygraph and RCMP reliability clearance are mandatory, with CUPE 402 union protection and competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by some related experience.
• Accurate typing speed of 45 wpm.
• The ability to work rotating shifts, including day, evening, graveyards, holidays and weekends.
• This position requires SPSSecurity Clearance and RCMP Reliability Status; all applicants must obtain and maintain clearance including polygraph.

Responsibilities

• Takes reports and enters detailed information accurately within time constraints.
• Provides critical information with speed and accuracy to the public and other agencies.
• Maintains phone contact with callers under emergency situations and transmits instructions to callers.
• Liaises with the Telecommunications Operator 2 on priority calls and completes extensive report taking.
• Accesses information systems (CPIC, CAD) to make inquiries related to a report or event.
• Receives training in dispatch and assists in dispatch duties as part of training.
• May attend court to give evidence on calls taken.
• Maintains file records per management requirements.
