Job summary

Simon Fraser University is seeking a Study Abroad Officer to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate programs that ensure safe, high-quality study abroad experiences for students. You will work with partner institutions, SFU faculty, staff across units, and Student Services to coordinate comprehensive programming for inbound and outbound participants.

International Services for Students provides holistic programs and services to support the international, newcomer and refugee student experience at SFU and manages the University's Study Abroad Programs (formal exchange, study abroad, faculty-led field schools) with over 130 partners around the globe to facilitate transformative international and intercultural learning opportunities for SFU students.

About the Role

The Study Abroad Officer works collaboratively with campus stakeholders to develop, implement, deliver and evaluate programs, protocol and procedures that contribute to safe, high-quality study abroad experiences for students. Working as a member of a cross-functional team, the role liaises with SFU’s partner institutions, SFU faculty and staff across all academic units, and with Student Services departments and Safety and Risk Services to coordinate and deliver comprehensive programming and services for participants in both inbound and outbound international programs. The position markets programs and services to the university community and serves as a strategic resource for supporting international programming and partnering opportunities.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in International Studies, Education, Business, or other relevant discipline and four years of related experience in program development and evaluation, administration of international learning abroad programs and services, experience supporting volunteers, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Excellent knowledge of best practices in study abroad programming and curriculum development.
  • Excellent project management skills including budget administration and human resource management.
  • Excellent supervisory and volunteer management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and communication (oral, written and presentation) skills.
