Job description

Who We Are

Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.

Research Operations supports the institution’s research mission by providing a highly coordinated suite of services that cover all aspects of the research life cycle. The Institutional Strategic Awards (ISA) team – a core part of Research Operations – focuses on supporting SFU’s largest research proposals, nominations, and projects. Complementing our research development and recognition specialists, ISA’s research management team helps ensure the operational success of SFU’s most complex and high-risk projects. Our growing team of Research Project Managers (RPMs) help coordinate major funding applications, implement our successful grants, support our top researchers, and onboard new research initiatives.

About the Role

You will play an essential role in supporting SFU's participation in Horizon Europe, the European Union's flagship research and innovation program, providing access to high-impact collaborations involving universities, industry, governments, and research institutes across Europe and beyond. The role will navigate the program's complexity and ensure SFU researchers can compete effectively in this highly competitive environment, through promoting awareness, ensuring compliance, building capacity, supporting proposal development and facilitating connections with international partners and consortium leads. The focus of the next phase of support will be to expand SFU's engagement in the program, increase our success rate, and build a strong pipeline of potential proposals.

You bring experience in the management and administration of research contracts, grants, and networks in a university setting. You are a big-picture thinker, able to anticipate and mitigate potential risks and impacts across a large portfolio of projects. You are a problem-solver who often does their best work under rapidly changing and uncertain situations. You enjoy applying project management principles and methodologies to address challenges. You are familiar with SFU systems/processes/units and Horizon Europe.
