Job summary

The Sunshine Coast CYMH team within the BC Public Service is seeking a part-time mental health clinician to provide compassionate, trauma-informed support to children and youth in care. You will assess, treat, intervene in crises and collaborate with families, foster parents and Ministry teams to promote stability and emotional well-being.

Flexibility includes hybrid work and up to half a day of telework; regular travel between Sechelt and Gibsons offices is required.

Qualifications

• Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
• Note:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the ICES (International Credential Evaluation Services).
• You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
• Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
• Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

• Provide compassionate, trauma-informed and attachment-based clinical support to children and youth in care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development through assessment, treatment, crisis intervention and collaborative care planning.
• Work collaboratively with families, foster parents, internal Ministry teams, and community partners to build stronger relationships, stability and emotional well-being for children and youth who have experienced trauma and other significant challenges.
• Be a source of care and support for children and families while contributing to positive change in their lives.

The Team

The Sunshine Coast CYMH team is an established, close-knit and caring group of professionals who support each other through regular case consultation, collaboration and clinical supervision. With six clinicians based in Sechelt and Gibsons, a Team Leader and a CYMH Support Worker, the team works closely with MCFD child safety teams and community partners to provide responsive, culturally respectful support to children and youth experiencing moderate to severe mental health concerns. Their strong community relationships and a child and youth approach help create inclusive, supportive services that promote the emotional and mental well-being of children, youth and families.

The Role

In this role, you’ll provide compassionate, trauma-informed and attachment-based clinical support to children and youth in care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development through assessment, treatment, crisis intervention and collaborative care planning. Working collaboratively alongside families, foster parents, internal Ministry teams, and community partners, you’ll help build stronger relationships, stability and emotional well-being for children and youth who have experienced trauma and other significant challenges. About this Position

Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to half a day at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.

This position is part time (0.5 FTE/35 hours biweekly).

This position can be based out of either the Sechelt or Gibsons office. Regular travel between both communities is required for service delivery.

An eligibility list may be established to fill future permanent full time and part time vacancies.
