Job summary

The BC Public Service’s South Island High Risk Team is seeking a CYMH Clinician to assess, treat, and stabilize youth at acute risk. You will work with families, schools, and partners to deliver culturally safe, evidence-informed care in person in Victoria, BC.

Responsibilities include risk assessments, safety planning, individual/family/group interventions, and care coordination with a multidisciplinary network to support youth resilience and ongoing supports.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care (or comparable).
  • International credential assessment may be required for degrees from outside Canada.
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience with children, youth and families.

The Team

The South Island High Risk Team provides specialized mental health support to youth experiencing acute suicide risk and helps families navigate some of their most challenging and vulnerable moments. As part of this established team, you will collaborate with a close-knit group of clinicians, a team leader, a contracted psychiatrist, schools, hospitals, community agencies, and other partners to deliver responsive, evidence-informed care. The Role

As a CYMH Clinician, you will provide assessment, treatment, crisis intervention, and stabilization services for youth experiencing acute suicide risk and other complex mental health concerns. You will complete mental health and suicide risk assessments, develop safety and treatment plans, deliver individual, family, and group interventions, and work closely with families, schools, health professionals, community partners, and ministry colleagues to coordinate care. Through this work, you will help youth regain safety, build resilience, and connect to ongoing supports while delivering culturally safe, inclusive services. Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements
  • Master’s in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
    • NOTE:If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services ( ICES ). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
Related Experience may include:
  • Minimum of 1 year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
Please note
  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:

  • Two years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
  • Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
About this Position:

This is a temporary opportunity until 8/22/2027. This position may be extended.

This position is part time (0.7 # FTE, 49 hours biweekly)

This position requires full-time, in-person work at the physical location listed.
