Job summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is seeking a Simulation Technician for the Prince Albert Campus to support nursing, paramedic, health sciences, and other programs through high-fidelity simulations. You will set up, operate, and troubleshoot simulation equipment in realistic scenarios.

You will collaborate with faculty, maintain data integrity for scenarios, and assist with virtual simulation efforts while supporting the Simulation Learning Centre team.

Qualifications

Requires degree or diploma in Nursing and/or Paramedicine or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of two years of experience in an acute care clinical setting.
Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures in healthcare and simulation.

Responsibilities

Offer technical assistance for simulations for nursing, paramedic and health sciences programs.
Deliver high-fidelity simulations using multiple platforms and robotic mannequins.
Prepare and disassemble simulation equipment and environments.
Input event scenarios data and maintain data integrity.
Collaborate with faculty on virtual simulation requirements and possibilities.
Assist with asset management, maintenance, and procurement of supplies and equipment.

Job Duties/Qualifications, Skills and Abilities(QSA)

The Simulation Centers prepare health care learners for clinical practice by building their competence and confidence through participation in realistic experiences. The centers create a wide variety of situations, which translate into better care for patients when students graduate and enter their chosen field.

The Simulation Technician will be responsible for duties such as:

Offering technical assistance for simulations designed for nursing, paramedic, health sciences, and other various programs. This will require the technician to recall prior acute care experience and utilize lab checklist to create realistic scenarios for students.
Delivery of high-fidelity scenarios using multiple technological platforms to provide students with life-like learning experiences in a safe simulated environment, this includes working with robotic mannequins to provide vocal, audio and visual cues that are appropriate for the scenario.
Preparation and disassembly of simulation equipment, encompassing both technical setup and physical arrangements: assembling mannikins or task trainers, preparing the simulation environment (beds, supplies, patient charts), ensuring correct props, etc…
Partnering with faculty to input event scenarios’ data and maintain data integrity.
Assist with faculty and learning technology experts to create and explore virtual simulation requirements and possibilities.
Working alongside the Simulation Learning Centre Coordinator and Simulation Assistants to manage assets, oversee maintenance and repairs, and support procurement of supplies and equipment.
Contribute as part of the Simulation Learning Centre team to ensure smooth operations and continuous improvements.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

Degree or diploma in Nursing; and/or certificate or diploma in Paramedicine; or an equivalent or relevant combination of education, training and experience.
A minimum of two years of experience working in an acute care clinical setting.
Strong understanding of medical terminology and current knowledge of procedures and consumable medical products used in healthcare and in simulation, including the operation of simulation software.
Technical proficiency with electronic and digital medical equipment and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
The ability to learn and utilize new applications and software platforms to enhance simulation experiences.
Training or experience at the introductory level in the use of MS Office suite.
Effective communication (listening, oral, written) skills.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work cooperatively within a team.
Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
