Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina Campus invites applications for the part-time Simulation Assistant position in the SLC. The role supports orientation, procurement, inventory and setup of simulation labs, collaborating with the SLC coordinator and faculty to ensure smooth operations.

Ideal candidates have a nursing degree or paramedicine credentials, at least two years in acute care, and familiarity with medical terminology, simulation software and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Nursing; and/or certificate in Paramedicine or equivalent.
  • Minimum two years of experience in an acute care setting.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology and simulated lab products.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with orientation of new simulation assistants to SLC.
  • Collaborate with SLC coordinator for supplies and equipment and inventory.
  • Perform product and vendor research for lab needs.
  • Assess supply and equipment suitability and program value.
  • Prepare and present supplies for events (simulators, dressings, sutures).
  • Dismantle and store supplies after simulations.
  • Assist technician with preparation and dismantling of equipment.
  • Develop relationships with educational partners, vendors and health leaders.
  • Work as a member of the SLC team.
  • Liaise with faculty and health region reps on standards and products.

This position is open to individuals with experience in acute care settings; Nurses, Paramedics, CCA’s in acute care settings considered to be relevant.

Job Duties

1. Assist with orientation of new simulation assistants to SLC .
2. Collaborate with SLC coordinator for the acquisition of supplies and equipment, purchasing, storage and provision of lab supplies and equipment, including bi-annual inventory count.
3. Perform product and vendor research.
4. Assess supply and equipment product suitability, availability, program value and performance in relationship to the objectives of the SLC .
5. Prepare and present supplies and equipment for specific events, e.g. instillation of fluid compartments of simulators, dressing bundles, simulated sutures, wound care simulators, heat sealed instruments.
6. Dismantle and store supplies and equipment following simulation events/scenarios.
7. Assist the technician with the physical preparation and dismantling of simulation equipment.
8. Establish and maintain working relationships (both national and international) with counterparts from other educational institutions, simulation lab professionals, vendors, community representatives, health industry/education leaders.
9. Work as a member of the SLC team.
10. Liaise with faculty and health region representatives regarding current standards of practice, policies, procedures and preferred products.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

1. Degree or diploma in Nursing; and/or certificate or diploma in Paramedicine; or an equivalent or relevant combination of education, training and experience.
2. A minimum of two years of experience working in an acute care clinical setting.
3. Strong understanding of medical terminology and current knowledge of procedures and consumable medical products used in healthcare and in simulation, including the operation of simulation software.
4. Technical proficiency with electronic and digital medical equipment and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
5. The ability to learn and utilize new applications and software platforms to enhance simulation experiences.
6. Training or experience at the introductory level in the use of MS Office suite.
7. Effective communication (listening, oral, written) skills.
8. Strong organizational skills.
9. Ability to work cooperatively within a team.
10. Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
