Job summary

Saskatchewan Polytechnic Regina Campus is seeking an experienced Instructor to lead the Paramedic Programs, coordinating labs, practica, and curriculum updates. Qualifications

• Completion of an ACP (Advanced Care Paramedic) program from an approved school.
• Minimum two years’ EMT-Paramedic (EMT-P/ACP) experience or five years’ EMT/PCP experience.
• Valid Practicing License with Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.
• Instructor level certification in ITLS and Basic Life Support (BLS).
• Provider level certification in ACLS and PALS or PEPP.
• Ability to apply adult education principles to teaching and learning.
• Experience facilitating students in precepted practicum.
• Proficiency with internet, e-mail, and MS Office; adaptability to technology.

Responsibilities

• Plan, facilitate delivery of courses across all levels in Paramedic Programs, including labs, scenarios, and lectures; coordinate practicum sites.
• Develop and maintain community/agency partnerships.
• Manage learning environments in classroom and practicum settings.
• Participate in program and school initiatives.
• Serve as practicum liaison, assisting with paperwork and evaluations.
• Foster external relationships with other institutions, simulation labs, vendors, and health educators.
• Build internal relationships within Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Job Duties

• 1. Plan/facilitate the delivery of a learning program or course at all three levels within the Paramedic Programs including: providing tutorial, counselling assistance; facilitating labs, scenario skill practice, small groups and lectures; evaluating course/program and result of teaching process; and revising/maintaining curriculum. Responsibilities may also include Practicum Coordination for both hospital and ambulance practicum sites.


• 2. Develop and maintain community/agency partnerships.


• 3. Manage the learning environment in both classroom and practicum settings.


• 4. Participate in Program and School related initiatives.


• 5. Act as a practicum liaison for Paramedic students and preceptors, assisting with completion of paperwork or evaluation.


• 6. Establish and maintain external relationships with counterparts from other educational institutions, simulation lab professionals, vendors, representatives of the community, health industry and health education leaders, nationally and internationally.


• 7. Establish and maintain internal relationships within Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities (QSA)

• Completion of an ACP (advanced Care Paramedic) program from an approved school.


• A minimum of two years’ experience as an EMT -P/ ACP or five years’ experience as an EMT / PCP


• Valid Practicing License with Saskatchewan College of Paramedics.


• Current Instructor level certification in International Trauma Life Support ( ITLS ) and Basic Life Support (Heart and Stroke Foundation).


• Current Provider level certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support ( ACLS ) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support ( PALS ) or Pediatric Education for Pre-hospital Professionals ( PEPP ).


• Understanding of an ability to apply basic principles and practices of adult education to assist learners with the required emergency health care knowledge and skills.


• Well developed interpersonal and communication skills including excellent written and oral presentation skills and an ability to develop and maintain productive working relations with instructors, program administrators, employers, students, other clients and the public.


• Experience facilitating students in a precepted practicum.


• Demonstrated competence and recent experience in the use of the internet, e-mail, MS Office Suite software and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology.


• Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
