Job summary

CIMA+ is seeking a Senior Protection and Control Engineer to lead design and review of protection and control systems for large electrical energy projects in Canada. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across substations, hydroelectric facilities, and renewable energy projects, delivering detailed designs and commissioning guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level degree in Electrical engineering or equivalent.
• Registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC or other Canadian PEO/association or eligible for registration.
• 12+ years of relevant experience in protection and control engineering.
• Strong knowledge of protection and control principles and philosophies.
• Experience in electrical system design.
• 4+ years in detailed protection & control design with utilities in Canada.
• Fluent in English (spoken and written).
• Proficient with standard office software (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Autonomous, team-oriented, and ethical; high integrity.

Responsibilities

• Design and review protection and control systems for utility and industrial projects.
• Approve and review project deliverables: detailed designs, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, panels, and equipment sizing.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and project managers across disciplines.
• Prepare project plans, drawings, and calculations per specifications.
• Develop protection and control systems including single-line diagrams and relay settings.
• Oversee AC/DC power system development and charging/battery/inverter wiring.
• Conduct site surveys for stations and power plants.
• Coordinate with other disciplines to develop optimized substation and power plant designs.
• Provide guidance to junior engineers and review their outputs.
• Prepare commissioning specs and site review plans; document NERC CIP requirements.
• Coordinate with equipment, civil, mechanical, and building teams for integrated solutions.
• Potentially perform sporadic on-site work for startup or monitoring.
