Job summary

RBC is seeking a Lead Platform Engineer in Toronto to drive the evolution of our internal developer platform. You will design self-service capabilities, automate provisioning, and advance AI-enabled engineering workflows for faster, safer software delivery.

You will mentor teams, lead architecture reviews, and push security-as-code while delivering scalable platform solutions across multi-cloud environments.

Qualifications

• 8-10+ years of Platform Engineering/DevOps/SRE with progressive responsibility.
• Proficient in at least one OO language (Python/Java/JS) with strong Bash and reusable tooling.
• Deep understanding of internal developer platforms, self-service infra, and golden paths.
• Strong AI literacy including context engineering, prompt engineering, and AI agent orchestration.
• Experience evaluating/integrating AI-powered developer tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, Devin).
• Hands-on with platform/automation tools (Terraform, Ansible, Dynatrace, GitHub, Backstage/Port, Elastic, Kibana).
• Deep expertise with GitHub Actions and GitOps for CI/CD and platform automation.
• Kubernetes and OpenShift enterprise deployments; distributed systems and Camunda workflow orchestration.
• Experience across cloud environments (Azure, AWS, OCP), Linux/Unix, APIs.
• Excellent communication and leadership in technical settings.

Responsibilities

• Lead self-service platform design, golden paths, and automated provisioning workflows.
• Architect AI-powered automation to optimize CI/CD pipelines and auto-remediate incidents.
• Develop IaC frameworks for repeatable, auditable infrastructure provisioning.
• Design context engineering patterns for AI-assisted workflows and tool orchestration.
• Integrate AI-powered developer tools and set platform-wide standards for usage.
• Deploy and scale distributed workflows (Camunda) across multi-datacenter configs.
• Build observability stacks with metrics, logs, tracing, and AI-driven alerts.
• Create design docs, lead architecture reviews, and set platform standards.
• Embed security as code and shift security left within pipelines.
• Mentor teams in platform engineering and AI-augmented practices.
