Job summary

Trans Mountain Corporation is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist (Contract) to lead day-to-day payroll operations across Canada and the United States. You will serve as the payroll subject matter expert, ensuring accurate, timely payroll delivery and compliance across multiple cycles.

The role requires 9+ years of progressive payroll experience, hands-on use of ADP/SuccessFactors or similar systems, and strong knowledge of Canadian and US payroll legislation.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources or related discipline.
• Certifications, such as Payroll Compliance professional (PCP) or Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) considered an asset.
• 9+ years of progressive experience.
• Experience managing end-to-end payroll operations in a complex organization.
• Hands-on experience with ADP, SuccessFactors, or similar enterprise HRIS/Payroll systems.
• Experience with ServiceNow or other high-volume ticket platforms.
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with payroll reporting and reconciliations.
• Understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements (Canada and the US).
• Strong understanding of payroll controls, governance and audit requirements.
• Strong vendor management and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day payroll operations to ensure payrolls are processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with legislative and corporate requirements.
• Act as the primary escalation point for complex payroll inquiries, issues, and exceptions.
• Coordinate payroll activities across various payroll cycles, including bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly payrolls.
• Monitors payroll processing schedules and ensure critical deadlines are met.
• Identifies operational risks and recommends corrective actions.
• Support internal and external payroll audits, compliance reviews, and control testing activities.
• Interprets payroll legislation and corporate policies and provides guidance on complex payroll matters.
• Oversee payroll account reconciliations and payroll-related financial reporting activities.
• Support general ledger balancing, month-end activities, accrual calculations, and year-end payroll processes.
• Reviews statutory remittances, tax filings, year-end reporting, and related reconciliations.
• Assists with vacation accruals, bonus programs, taxable benefit reconciliations, and other payroll-related accounting activities.
