Job description

We are seeking a Payroll Operations Manager to oversee payroll operations across the United States and Canada, with a strong focus on payroll system transformation and migration to a global platform.

This opportunity sits within a globally expanding environment where attention to detail, care, and excellence are reflected in internal people processes and operational practices. The role supports a people‑centered workplace while driving payroll transformation initiatives across North America.

Set within a dynamic, high‑growth context undergoing significant operational change, the position offers the opportunity to lead multi‑country payroll activities while contributing to global system implementation and process standardization efforts.

Key Activities
  • Own end-to-end payroll operations across the U.S. and Canada, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery through external providers.
  • Lead the migration from local payroll systems to a global payroll platform, including requirements definition, data preparation, migration, testing, parallel runs, and post‑go‑live stabilization.
  • Ensure payroll configurations, controls, and processes align with global standards while remaining fully compliant with local regulations.
  • Act as the primary liaison between HR, Finance, external payroll vendors, and global teams during system implementation and ongoing operations.
  • Oversee payroll validations, internal controls, and issue resolution during both transformation phases and steady‑state operations.
  • Monitor vendor performance, SLAs, and service quality, supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure statutory compliance, audit readiness, and accurate payroll‑related reporting across all locations in scope.
  • Partner with Finance to support reconciliations, data accuracy, and people cost reporting.
  • Lead a small HR administration team, ensuring consistent, high‑quality delivery of payroll‑adjacent and administrative services.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or Associate degree; payroll‑related certifications are a plus.
  • 6+ years of experience in payroll operations within a multinational environment, with exposure to complex, multi‑country setups.
  • Proven experience leading or supporting system migrations, ideally transitioning from local solutions to a global payroll platform.
  • Experience working with global HRIS or payroll technologies (Workday preferred).
  • Strong understanding of regional labor laws, tax regulations, and compliance frameworks.
  • Highly detail‑oriented professional with strong ownership, accuracy, and accountability.
  • Comfortable operating in fast‑changing environments and supporting transformation initiatives.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across HR, Finance, vendors, and global teams.
  • Practical, hands‑on mindset with a continuous improvement and problem‑solving orientation.
  • Availability to work in a hybrid setting, three days per week in Downtown Toronto.
Compensation
  • Competitive compensation package, including a base salary range of CAD 100,000 – 120,000, based on experience.
