Job summary

AECOM is seeking a highly skilled Senior Heavy Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, integration, and implementation of major mechanical equipment for hydropower facilities and water-retaining structures across Canada, with occasional international projects. The role is based in a hybrid work model with collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 6 years in design of heavy mechanical equipment for hydropower facilities.
• P.Eng. with OIQ or eligible for registration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in French.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical lead for heavy mechanical systems on hydropower and dam projects.
• Establish design criteria and engineering basis, ensure compliance with codes and client requirements.
• Perform or oversee engineering calculations, analyses, and equipment selection.
• Prepare, review, and approve technical deliverables (studies, drawings, specs, cost estimates).
• Coordinate mechanical engineering with civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.
• Conduct site investigations and incorporate site conditions into design solutions.
• Provide technical support during construction (shop drawings, RFIs, inspections, commissioning).
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, suppliers, contractors, and partners.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians.
• Meet schedule, budget, quality, and health and safety objectives.
