Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Heavy Mechanical Engineer to contribute to the design, integration, and implementation of heavy mechanical equipment for hydropower facilities and water-retaining structures across Canada.

Based in a hybrid work model, you will lead mechanical design, coordinate with civil, structural and electrical disciplines, perform analyses, mentor juniors, and help deliver projects on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in the design of heavy mechanical equipment for hydropower facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage complex assignments, and provide sound technical recommendations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in French.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the senior technical lead for heavy mechanical systems on hydropower and dam projects.
• Establish design criteria and engineering basis for mechanical systems and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
• Perform or oversee engineering calculations, analyses, and equipment selection.
• Prepare, review, and approve technical deliverables, including studies, drawings, specifications, contract documents, and cost estimates.
• Coordinate mechanical engineering activities with civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.
• Conduct site investigations and field assessments, and incorporate existing site conditions into design solutions.
• Provide technical support during construction, including shop drawing reviews, responses to RFIs, site inspections, and commissioning activities.
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, suppliers, contractors, and project partners.
• Mentor and support the development of junior engineers and technicians.
• Contribute to the successful delivery of projects by meeting schedule, budget, quality, and health and safety objectives.
