Kraken Robotics is currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our Mount Pearl, NL office or Dartmouth, Nova Scotia office.

Responsibilities
  • Be a Senior member of the newly formed Battery Management Systems (BMS) team and assist with the transition of design, manufacturing and production knowledge from Germany to Canada.
  • Design and develop printed circuit boards (PCBs) for electronic systems, ensuring functionality, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct circuit simulations using software tools to analyze and optimize circuit performance, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Design wiring harnesses and cable assemblies for electrical systems, considering factors such as signal integrity, thermal management, and EMC/EMI compliance.
  • Develop system architectures and integrate electrical components into larger systems, considering overall functionality, performance, and safety requirements.
  • Lead electrical engineering projects from concept to completion. Support the project management office in developing work breakdown structures.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineers, firmware engineers, CAD drafters, and product designers, to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other components.
  • Direct activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
  • Develop test plans and procedures, conduct testing, and perform validation to ensure the reliability and performance of electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with Kraken requirements, applicable standards, regulations, and classification society requirements.
  • Establish design criteria for projects using required codes and standards.
  • Work with the Production department to provide technical assistance during the manufacturing process.
  • Support Production in developing standard Work Instructions and Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Work with clients to understand project requirements, provide operational support while in the field and provide a client interface for Kraken technical representation.
  • Participate in the design review and approval process.
  • Mentor Electrical Engineers and Technologists.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent engineering discipline with 8+ years’ experience.
  • Excellent design standards and strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Effectively focus on high level project objectives while executing detailed design tasks.
  • Incredible attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated technical skills along with a proven track record for success.
  • Experience in the design specification, installation and connection methods of electrical equipment.
  • Design and review PCB Fab drawings, PCB Assembly drawings and provide input into new product designs.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills (technical reporting).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently, as well as effectively within a team environment.
  • High degree of organization, with the ability to prioritize task.

  • Experience with the following would be considered an asset:
    • Experience with Altium.
    • Experience with Zuken E3.
    • Experience with LabVIEW.
    • Experience with Colab
    • Experience with high voltages.
    • Experience with ABB motors and drives.
    • Experience with embedded controllers.
  • P.Eng. is considered an asset.
