Affirm in Canada is hiring a backend engineering leader to own quarterly goals, guide engineers through ambiguity, and ensure delivery of scalable data infrastructure across OLTP/OLAP. You will collaborate with product, design, and analytics to balance risks and trade-offs while driving quality and on-call readiness.

This remote-first role welcomes candidates across Canada, with base pay CAD 153,000–213,000 plus equity and benefits including health coverage and stipends.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Familiar with Iceberg, Flink, Airflow, Spark, Kafka, Snowflake and Terraform.
• Strong ability to write clean, scalable code and communicate trade-offs clearly.
• Proactive about seeking feedback and ownership of growth.

Responsibilities

• Own quarterly goals and lead engineers through ambiguity to deliver results.
• Collaborate with product, design & analytics across the lifecycle.
• Identify and solve project, process, technology or business issues.
• Monitor metrics and support on-call efforts to keep systems healthy.
• Set and improve code review and design standards beyond the team.
• Mentor and develop team members through feedback and example.
