Job summary

Affirm is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead projects on the Fraud Decisioning team. You’ll drive cross-functional initiatives, craft scalable designs, review work, and mentor engineers to own their pieces of the initiative.

This remote Canada role is open to residents of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan. Base pay CAD 181,000–241,000 per year, with equity and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• 6-10+ years as a software engineer with leadership responsibilities.
• Experience architecting, building, launching, coding and maintaining complex systems.
• Passion for cross-functional collaboration with Product, ML, Analytics and Business teams.
• A system architect who sees the big picture and breaks down requirements into modules.
• Equivalent practical experience or a related Bachelor's degree.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute large cross-functional initiatives with clear technical specs.
• Design simple, robust software and anticipate unhappy paths.
• Review others’ work to maintain high quality standards.
• Mentor engineers, provide context, and foster ownership.
• Incorporate stakeholder needs and build common understanding across voices.
• Contribute to hiring decisions by evaluating technical content.
