Job summary

Extendicare in Canada is seeking a Part-time Personal Support Worker to provide personal care and assist with daily living activities under supervision. The role emphasizes adherence to the plan of care and maintaining resident safety and dignity.

Responsibilities include assisting with transfers, mobility, meals, observation and reporting changes, and offering cognitive, social, emotional support to residents and families. The position supports a compassionate, mission-driven team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Personal Support Worker program (or provincial equivalent with minimum 600 hours in Ontario & Alberta of theory & practicum).
• Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
• Sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification required.
• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting/transferring clients.
• Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain) within six months.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the plan of care as determined by the supervisor.
• Facilitate residents' move in and transfers where applicable.
• Observe and report on residents' care/service using Extendicare forms/tools.
• Assist with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Observe and report changes in residents' condition to supervisor.
• Elevate medical emergencies to supervisor or EMS as appropriate.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required.
• Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transfers and adaptive aids.
• Demonstrate understanding of resident needs and maximize abilities.
• Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents and families.
• Maintain resident information confidentiality.
• Respond to concerns and take appropriate action within authority.
• Maintain safe and clean environment and nursing equipment.
• Report safety concerns to Client Service Supervisor and advocate for resident safety.
• Engage with other agencies involved in resident care as directed.
• Attend in-services to develop knowledge and skills.
