Job summary

Affirm, Inc. is seeking an experienced backend engineer for the Capacity Modeling team. You will design and operate scalable backend systems in cloud environments, focusing on capacity planning and performance under peak sales events.

You will own quarterly goals, mentor teammates, and collaborate with product, design and analytics to align technical constraints with business goals. The role emphasizes reliability, scale, and a strong ownership mindset.

Qualifications

• 4+ years designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Experience building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Experience supporting scale events (e.g., Prime Day, Black Friday, Cyber Monday).
• Ability to tune autoscaling, CPU/Memory and multi-threading for compute workloads.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features with simple, extensible design.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for your team and lead engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design & analytics through ideation and decision-making.
• Identify and drive resolutions to project, process, technology or business issues.
• Support availability of team artifacts by creating and monitoring metrics and on-call efforts.
• Enforce and elevate code review and design standards across teams.
• Develop talent by giving feedback and guidance.
