Job summary

Affirm is hiring for a senior backend-focused engineer to own quarterly goals for a high‑scale team and deliver reliable systems. You’ll work with product, design, and analytics to balance risks and trade-offs while maintaining quality and ownership across the codebase.

You have 4+ years designing and launching backend services in Python or Kotlin, with distributed systems on AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes. This remote Canada role offers strong compensation and equity opportunities.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale.
• Track record building highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL and Kubernetes.
• Defined technical plans for large features with elegant, extensible designs.
• Able to write high quality code that is easily understood and used by others.

Responsibilities

• Own and deliver quarterly goals for the team, guiding engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design and analytics across the lifecycle.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology, or business issues.
• Support operations and on-call efforts; monitor metrics and maintain reliability.
• Foster quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards.
